*History as follows:

THE AULD BRIG
KEITH

Built 1609

In 1746 an army of Hanovarian soldiers consisting mainly of Campbell militia were encamped along the bank of the River Isla near the Auld Brig. Under cover of darkness, the waiting Jacobites surprised the sleeping Campbells and a fierce battle ensued. Those who escaped took refuge under a massive stone covering a hollow under the Brig which is still known as Campbells’ Hole. This was one of the last Jacobite battles which took place before their savage defeat at Culloden. The massacred Campbells were buried in a communal grave which became known as Campbells’ Hillock.

Legend has it that the Brig was gifted by a couple whose son was drowned while
attempting to cross the ford.
