IN  SCOTS
Throughoot Scotland, the tale is widely telt that, lang syne, a Norse airmy socht tae gie a pucke Scottish sodgers a muckle begeck bi creepin up on them in deid o nicht.   Hooiver, ane o the Norsemen dobbed his fit on a thrissel an kicked up sic a din that it waukent the sodgers fa gied the Norsemen a guid hidin.   Fae that day tae this, the thrissel haes been the symbol o Scotland.   Ye’ll find nae evidence o this in the history buiks, bit it’s a braw story!

IN  ENGLISH
Legend tells us that a sleeping party of Scottish warriors were saved from ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the warriors stood on a thistle.   His cries of pain roused the warriors who defeated the invaders.   The thistle has since been the emblem of Scotland.   Sadly, there is no historical evidence to support this, but it’s a great story!
